Failure to Start

If you've had problems starting your vehicle, it could be because you left lights on or you left your door ajar. There are many reasons why this could be a problem, and it could be your battery or something else. If you are experiencing startup problems, there are a few potential issues that could cause the situation. It could be that you had a problem with a battery-draining feature, like what happens when lights are left on. This, of course, is the best scenario, because if your battery is healthy and it has just been drained, then a simple jump start should get you on your way, but if that doesn't solve the problem, it could be one of the issues that follow:

• Old battery: If this is your problem, it means that the battery can no longer hold a charge. You can have one of our technicians test your battery to make sure this is the cause of your start-up problem. If it is, a new battery will take care of the issue, and our technicians can help you find the right battery to get you back on the road.
• Starting system needs service: This could be your problem too, and if it is, it stems from some mechanical problem that is keeping your vehicle from starting, or the problem is draining your battery, or it could be something keeping your battery from charging.

If you try a jump start and it doesn't solve your problem, have your battery tested with a voltmeter. If your battery proves to be healthy, a diagnostic test is needed to isolate the problem so it can be remedied.

If the battery is healthy, then the problem may lie with the starter, starter relay, alternator, ignition switch, spark plugs, fuses, or wiring. This issue can be discovered with a proper diagnostic test. Otherwise, If it is not the battery or one of the other parts mentioned here, it may be something as simple as your cables, terminals, or connectors being corroded. If it is this simple of a problem, a good cleaning will fix the problem, and you can try again.
